He lives where the sky is punctured by empty towers Memories of childhood spending Saturdays hiding She has wrung the tears out of a faded pink towel Left at half past seven so she didn’t get the flowers Sadness is a motorway Heavy foot down all the way and crying Everybody wants to be happy No one knows what to do Everybody wants to be happy No one knows what to do Everybody wants to be loved Are we right for the times in which we live? Growing up the tribal youth hung out where it’s cold His bedroom is a shrine to scooters and Northern Soul Not so many of you now Twenty-one and you have had your best years When I make a million I will leave you behind I’ve studied the workings of the criminal mind Time to read the books again All the famous men and how they got there Everybody wants to be happy No one knows what to do Everybody wants to be happy No one knows what to do Everybody wants to be loved Are we right for the times in which we live?

Canary 03:11
There she goes But the record’s playing 2-2 slow And your single hit rings And your golden band turns into elastic Hello I thought you’d left me years ago You’re a poisonous chord With a tongue that tells lies and then licks you Have you heard canary sing about her life in prison? Have you seen the secret world Before the sun has risen? Lazy days Videos and Chinese trays Now your sweet-scented rooms Are like padded cells without any windows Daisy chains Petal-coloured primrose bars Now your powders and plumes Are like gentle nerve gas under my skin Have you heard canary sing about her life in prison? Have you seen the secret world Before the sun has risen?

about

Freezer's 2nd single. Recorded in February 1997 at Adrenalin Studios. The one recording by a remarkable but short-lived lineup. Sleeve notes: 'February 1997. We’re in an impossible old industrial tower looming over the swollen River Sheaf. It’s raining, mixed with sleet. The news is full of murders. No Doubt are at number one. Our bass player lays down a take then jumps into a van heading to Wakefield with his Britpop covers band. The producer gets a phone call from his wife saying their caravan has been burnt out by arsonists. The record companies are telling us that guitar bands are on their way out. Things break up. I don’t even know where the centre is anymore. This lineup of Freezer would soon be over, but not before we’d commemorated it with these two bombs of cheerful pessimism. If the previous year’s “Syd Barrett’s Icelandic Girlfriend” was our "Italian Job", “Everybody Wants To Be Happy” is our "Get Carter". The ceremony of innocence is drowned. (DB, May Day 2023)'

about

Freezer Sheffield, UK

Back from the 1990s! First single (rec. 1996) finally came out in 2022 on a limited vinyl release: sold out in 9 minutes! Now they’re gigging again. Freezer is the full live band vehicle for the songs of Dean Bargh. Current lineup (Brad Brennan, Hugh Ruiz, Liam Rice, Richard Gibson) is getting some serious love. New material coming through and that 1st LP in the pipeline. At last. ... more
